Earthquake Engineering Literature Survey Workshop

for Post Graduate Students from Engineering Colleges across India

at IIT Kanpur during July 07-16, 2011

A 10 day (July 07-16, 2011) Workshop on Earthquake Engineering Literature Survey was conducted by the National Information Centre of Earthquake Engineering (NICEE) at IIT Kanpur. Eighty five postgraduate students from 19 different engineering colleges across India participated in this workshop.  The workshop has been sponsored by Council of Scientific and Industrial Research(CSIR), New Delhi; Computers and Structures Inc (CSI), and Poonam and Prabhu Goel Research Foundation Fund at IIT Kanpur.

In this workshop the participants were encouraged to make use of available literature at NICEE library and Central Library for doing quality research work. These faclilities were  made available to the participants till late in the night. During the Workshop the participants also had interaction sessions with Prof Durgesh C. Rai, Prof. Kaustubh Dasgupta and Dr. KK Bajpai. During these sessions the participants were given tips on conducting a meaningful literature survey to advance in to the area of research topic chosen for M.Tech./Ph.D. theses.

A visit to the National Wind Tunnel Facility at IIT Kanpur along with a visit to the various laboratories of Civil Engineering was also organised, so that the participants get abreast with the latest available technologies in the country. The participants also deliberated at length with PhD scholars of IIT Kanpur Mr. Vaibhav Singhal and Mr. Goutam Mondal regarding their thesis topics.

The workshop was sponsored by Council of Scientific and Industrial Research(CSIR), New Delhi; Computers and Structures Inc (CSI) and Poonam and Prabhu Goel Research Foundation Fund at IIT Kanpur.

The participants xeroxed about 545 pages and downloaded 762 MB of data, per participant, during the workshop. The participants were divided into eight groups for a quiz on Earthquake Engineering. The team consisting of following participants stood first in the quiz
